CAPTAIN'S TABLE

This table was commissioned by the Worshipful Carpenters’ Company for the Captain’s Cabin of the Royal Navy’s brand new flagship destroyer; HMS Daring.

The Captain wanted a table that he could lay out his charts on during the day but also entertain dignitaries from around the world in the evening.

The materials used are burr oak veneer for the top, with solid oak lippings and ebony inlay. Solid oak laminations were used for the pedestals. There is also a marquetry HMS Daring crest laid into each of the 3 table top panels and the Daring motto (SPLENDIDE AUDAX - Finely Daring) inlaid into each table end in solid copper lettering. Finally, copper rivets have been inlaid all around the edge of the oak lipping.
