HEADMASTER'S DESK
This was commissioned by the parents of renowned Devon independent school as a leaving present for the departing Headmaster.
I wanted to include elements that would act as a subtle reminder of his time at the school that would be obvious to him, but not necessarily to everyone. The desk top has Ziricote as its main veneer, shaped to symbolise an open book. This is bordered with the vibrant Amboyna burr, into which is inlayed a marquetry emblem that I designed. The emblem represents the Headmaster's 2 core foundations beliefs - that children should be given both Roots and Wings. This is all lipped with Black Walnut. The rest of the desk is also in Black Walnut, with some Amboyna burr detailing on the feet.
The draw internals are made from sycamore, with the base lined in red leather - to match the school colours.
