DISPLAY CABINET
After leaving the House of Commons as their speaker, Lord Weatherill felt that the court dress suit which the Merchant Taylors' Company had made for him should return to it's makers.
The Merchant Taylors' Company asked me to design and make a display cabinet that would do justice to both the heritage of their hall and the suit itself.
I used solid maple for the cabinet and door frame work, whilst the main panels were veneered in birdseye maple. The floor and ceiling panels of the display cabinet were veneered in unfinished cedar of lebanon, a natural insect repellant.
The central panel of the rear access door was glazed a etched glass, showing Lord Weatherill's and the Company crests. Lettering outlining the history of the court dress suit was also included. |
